How to fly private without overspending
Many people assume private flights are only for millionaires. The reality is different: when you split the cost among 3 to 5 passengers, a charter flight can cost the same as a commercial first-class ticket.
Strategies to save
1. Share the flight
Sky Ride offers available seats on popular routes. You pay only for your seat, not the entire aircraft. Prices from $190/person to Contadora.
2. Travel in a group
A Cessna 206 for 5 passengers to Contadora costs $950. Split: $190/person. A group of 12 in a Grand Caravan: even more economical per person.
3. Book in low season
May through November has less demand. Prices can be up to 20% lower and aircraft availability is higher.
4. Be flexible with your schedule
Early morning flights (before 7 AM) or late afternoon (after 4 PM) may have discounts due to lower demand.
5. Repositioning flights
When an aircraft returns empty from a destination (ferry flight), Sky Ride offers those flights at a reduced price. Ask about availability.
Price comparison
| Destination | Private flight (5 pax) | Per person | Commercial/ferry |
|------------|----------------------|------------|-----------------|
| Contadora | $950 | $190 | $55–85 (ferry) |
| San Blas | $1,250 | $250 | $350+ (full-day tour) |
| Bocas del Toro | $2,200 | $440 | $80 (bus, 10 hours) |
The real equation
When you add up the value of your time, comfort, and flexibility, flying private isn't a luxury — it's a smart investment in your travel experience.
